Blizzard has announced that after months of player requests, Overwatch will be getting a Deathmatch game mode. The eagerly awaited mode will be available in Overwatch Arcade, and is actually already playable on the PTR.
If the name “Deathmatch” doesn’t already give it away, the goal of the mode is to see which player/team can get the most kills. To better support this new game style, Blizzard has created a new scoreboard to keep track of the number of kills you get.
Deathmatch will launch in the Arcade with two types of modes:
Every hero for him/herself. Players will play 1v7 to see who can get to 20 total kills the fastest.
Because this is 8 players against each other, Blizzard has had to tweak the loot box rewards for Weekly Arcade. Since there can only be one winner in Free-For-All, Blizzard has made it so the top 4 players are considered “winners” and will receive progress towards their weekly Arcade loot box.
In Team Deathmatch, players will play 6v6 with the winning team reaching 30 kills first. Mercy resurrections will take kills away from the other team’s kill count.
New Map: Château Guillard
Although several maps have been modified to accommodate deathmatch mode, Château Guillard has been specifically designed for this new mode.
