If fans were skeptical of Bungie’s ability to offer a better launch experience with Destiny 2 than its predecessor, it sure isn’t reflected in the pre-order numbers. In fact, Destiny 2 pre-orders are outpacing the original Destiny, Activision revealed during its latest earnings call.
“…pre-order levels are now above the first Destiny at this same point in time prelaunch,” Activision exec Collister Johnson said. “Destiny 2 full game pre-orders also have the highest digital mix in Activision’s history.”
Activision also revealed that Destiny 2’s console beta had more total players than the 2014 Destiny beta. While no specific figures were provided, we do know that the first Destiny beta brought in 4.6 million players.
In addition to the increased popularity on consoles, Activision has plans to expand Destiny’s reach by bringing Destiny 2 to PC. The beta for the PC version of Destiny 2 begins for people who have pre-ordered the game on August 28, and it opens to the public on August 29. The PC beta will end on August 31st. You can check out the minimum and recommended specs for the beta here.
Destiny 2 officially launches on September 6, 2017 on consoles, and October 24, 2017 on PC.
